Who we are
Sipwell ("we", "the app") is a water intake reminder and tracking app for Android, published by iDealOcean Technologies.
Questions, requests or complaints: sipwell@idealocean.tech
What we collect
We only collect what the app needs to work. There is no analytics SDK, no advertising SDK, and no third-party tracker in the app.
Account information
There are two ways into Sipwell, and what we hold depends on which one you use.
If you sign in with Google, Google gives us:
- your email address
- your name
- your Google account identifier
- your profile picture URL (the image itself is fetched from Google, not stored by us)
We never receive your Google password.
If you create an account with an email address, we store:
- your email address
- your name, as you type it
- your password, only ever as a one-way hash - we cannot read it and nobody here can tell you what it is, which is why resetting it is the only way back in if you forget
One email address is one account. If you start with a password and later sign in with Google using the same address, that is the same account and the same history, not a second one.
Email we send you
We email you to confirm your address when you create an account, and to set a new password when you ask to reset one. Each link works once and then expires - 24 hours for a confirmation, one hour for a reset - and what our server keeps is an irreversible hash, not the link that arrived in your inbox. We do not send marketing email and there is nothing to unsubscribe from.
Health and fitness information
To calculate a hydration goal and show your history, we store:
- weight, date of birth and gender, if you choose to provide them - all three are optional, and skipping them simply uses a default goal
- your daily water goal
- your drink entries: the amount, the time, the container label, and the kind of drink (water, tea, coffee and so on)
Your reminders
The reminders you create - for a meeting, a bill, a birthday - with what you write in them: the title, any notes, the category, when it happens and how it repeats, when to alert you, and which occurrences you marked done or skipped. Reminders are scheduled on your phone; the server only stores them so they reach your other devices and survive a reinstall.
App settings
Your reminder interval, waking hours, Do Not Disturb window, theme, units, and notification preferences.
Device information
A randomly generated install identifier, your timezone, and your app and OS version. The install identifier is created by the app; it is not your device's hardware ID or advertising ID.
What we explicitly do not collect
- No advertising identifier. The
AD_IDpermission is removed from the app's manifest. - No location data.
- No contacts, photos, files, calendar, SMS or call information.
- No analytics or crash-reporting data is sent to a third party.
Why we collect it
| Data | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Email address | To identify your account, sign you in on a new device, confirm the address is yours, and send a reset link if you ask for one |
| Name | To greet you in the app |
| Google account ID, or password hash | To check it is you when you sign in |
| Weight, date of birth, gender | To suggest a daily hydration goal |
| Intake entries, daily goal | The core function of the app: tracking and history |
| Your reminders and what you marked done | To remind you of them, on each of your devices |
| Settings, waking hours | To send reminders at times that suit you |
| Install ID, timezone, app version | To sync your data to the right account and schedule reminders in your local time |
We do not use your data for advertising or profiling, and we do not make automated decisions about you.
Where your data lives
Your data is stored in two places:
- On your device, in the app's private storage. Access tokens are held in encrypted storage. This local copy is what makes the app work offline.
- On our server, so that your history survives losing your phone and follows you to a new device.
Data in transit is encrypted with HTTPS. Your password, your sign-in tokens and the links we email you are all stored as irreversible hashes on the server, never in plain text. A copy of our database would not let anyone sign in as you, confirm an address or reset a password.
Your data is excluded from Android's automatic cloud backup, so a device backup does not carry your session tokens or database off the device.
Who we share it with
We do not sell your data. We do not share it with third parties for their own purposes. The only third parties involved are:
- Google, for Sign-In, and only if you choose to use it. Their handling of that is governed by the Google Privacy Policy.
- Hostinger, who hosts the server your data is stored on and delivers the email we send you.
We disclose data only if legally compelled to.
How long we keep it
Your data is kept while your account exists. Deleting your account deletes it.
Deleting your account and data
In the app: Settings → Account → Delete Account. You will be asked to confirm, because this cannot be undone.
Deleting your account immediately and permanently removes your profile, every intake entry, your reminders, your containers, your settings, your registered devices, and all sign-in tokens from our server, and wipes the local copy on your device. There is no recovery window and no archived copy.
Deleting your account also removes your password and any confirmation or reset link still outstanding.
If you cannot access the app, email sipwell@idealocean.tech from the address on the account and we will delete it within 30 days. Full instructions are on the account deletion page.
Your rights
You can access, correct, export or delete your data. Profile and settings are editable in the app, your history is visible in the app, and deletion is available as described above. For an export, or anything the app does not cover, email us.
Depending on where you live you may have additional rights under the GDPR, the UK GDPR, the CCPA/CPRA or India's DPDP Act. Contact us to exercise any of them.
Children
Sipwell is not directed at children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age where you live), and we do not knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will remove it.
Not medical advice
Sipwell suggests a hydration goal using a general formula based on body weight, age and gender. It is a habit-tracking estimate, not medical advice, and it does not account for medical conditions, medication, pregnancy, climate or activity level. Talk to a healthcare professional about your actual fluid needs, particularly if you have a heart or kidney condition or have been told to restrict fluids.
Changes
If we change this policy we will update the date above and, for anything material, tell you in the app before it takes effect.
